Will Progesterone help me get my period after not having one?

by Leighton
(Georgia)

I am 17 years old, and am on Yaz. My doctor put me on it, because I was not getting a period. I HATE it so much! It makes me gain weight, and I just hate the idea of being on this pill everyday.

Will the progesterone cream help me get my period, so I can finally get off of birth control? Could I use the cream for this, or would I need to take a pill form of it? Thanks so much. Please help! I hate the pill, and am very into natural things, and very interested in trying this if you think it can do the job!

Will Progesterone help me get my period after not having one?

Hi Leighton. Well it makes my life easier if you hate being on the pill and prefer natural things! And I'm relieved you want to come off it, please see here.

Have you never had a period, or have you and it stopped coming? The pill itself can prevent one returning. If you've never had one, be pleased! Women used to only start when they reached 17, now the average age has dropped to 10, with many girls of 8 starting. There is so much oestrogen in the environment now it's affecting all of us, men too. Please see here.

It could be your ovaries are not working properly because you have low grade inflammation, has this been checked? Have they checked for polycystic ovaries? If this is the case you need to take high dose antioxidants, the amino acids arginine 1600mg/day and N-acetyl cysteine 1200mg/day. Plus 5000iu's per day vitamin D, in fact often a lack of this can cause the ovaries to malfunction. Please have a test done, for more info please see here.

Progesterone has helped other girls, so I see no reason why it couldn't help you. It won't have an immediate affect, it can take about 3-6 months to really help. But who knows it could help much quicker, I hope it does. For more info on how to use it please see here. Take care, Wray

I have been given progesterone capsules because I am not having good periods and want to conceive a baby. I have a daughter who is 2.3 years old and now I want another. I don't know how much more time it will take. I don't even know what progesterone is? Will it help me or not?

It's very difficult to know how to advise you, as you haven't given me enough information. But there are two web pages you could look at which might help, please see here. And here. Take care, Wray
