PCOS... Stopped Taking BirthControl... Now What ?

by Jennifer
(Bronx, NY)

I have PCOS and I'm on Oral Contraceptive Pills. I have to take them for 6 months, but after I do that, then what?

Will my period be regular on its own now? And if so for how long? I want to have a child so its important to me that I can't be on birth control forever.

Can you give me a few details on what I can expect after my 6 months of pills are done?

Oral Contraceptives are extremely toxic to your body... natural progesterone is a much better option for your PCOS.

PCOS... Stopped Taking BirthControl... Now What ?
by: Wray

Hi Jennifer All OC's can have adverse side affects, please see our page on Contraceptives. As you say what do you do after the 6 months. The pill is not going to cure your problem, all it does is stop the ovaries functioning. By doing so it means no oestrogen or testosterone are made, which are the two hormones that cause most of the symptoms. But it also means no progesterone is made too, not a good thing. And when you stop the ovaries start up again, with the same attendant problems. For more info please see our page on PCOS. It gives info on the possible causes, the various symptoms and what to do about it. Also how to use progesterone and the amount to use. Take care Wray
