Should I keep taking my Progesterone cream?

by Lolly
(Dubai)

I have been using natural progesterone cream for the past 8 months or so. I had taken it for a couple of years in my early to mid thirties after I came off the pill but started again last year as my skin was terrible. (I'm currently 39). So far it seems to have helped.

The problem is that I've just realised that I should have been taking it from day 14 rather than day 7. Does this mean I have been suppressing my ovulation for the past 8 months?

The other issue is that I want to try for a baby in approximately 4 months time. Should I keep taking the natural progesterone from day 14 from now on? Or should I stop all together?

I am using a natural progesterone by KAL. It says to not use it when pregnant but I know that a lot of women do use it when pregnant. I'm confused about what to do. I don't want to upset my hormones again just before I start trying for a baby. KAL also doesn't appear to be additive free but as I live in Dubai I don't have a lot of options.

Would be so grateful for any advice.

Should I keep taking my Progesterone cream?

Hi Lolly. Apologies for the late response, but I've been travelling. Using progesterone from day 7 would mean you are suppressing your own production of it if you have a cycle longer than 21 days.

It would be essential to start from ovulation, which can vary from day 7 to day 21, depending on the length of the cycle. The cream you are using does not have a high enough dose to be of real benefit, and you are right it does contain some suspect ingredients, notably the parabens.

Progesterone is vital for pregnancy, and many miscarriages and pre-term births are due to a lack of it. It is safe to use whilst pregnant, many women have been helped by it. Please would you look at the web page we have on conception and pregnancy, particularly the research papers:

https://www.progesteronetherapy.com/faq-conception.html

If your skin is troubling you, I suggest you look at the web page we have on this too:

Finally we supply women living in Dubai with Natpro, and they do not have a problem receiving it. Take care, Wray.
