prometrium & tri-est combination

Hi,
I have been on oral tri-est 3.5 mg & oral prometrium (micronized progesterone)100 mg for many years i would say at least ten or more. I still have hot flashes. I had a complete hysterectomy when i was in my forties & am now 68 yrs old.

I also have hypothyroidism & raynauds. About a week ago i decided to go off my tri-est medication & started to open the prometrium capsules & rub 1 capsule (100 mg) on my arm at night. I haven't noticed any change, but also realize it probably is much too early to tell?

Could you advise me if it is okay to discontinue the tri-est & if rubbing the prometrium on my skin will be sufficient without taking the tri-est at all, or would i be better off buying some progesterone cream. I also found out recently that tri-est comes in cream form but don't know if i would need it or if my doctor would even prescribe it as she keeps telling me that because i have had a hysterectomy i don't need progesterone at all. She wasn't the original doctor that prescribed either medication.
Thank you for any suggestions you may have.
