Progesterone and male pattern baldness?

by Kees
(Netherlands)

Hey,

I'm 17 years old and as far as I know healthy. I show some early signs of male pattern baldness. I read a lot on the internet about progesterone being effective against blocking DHT and being much safer than finasteride. I was wondering how I can find out if I can safely use progesterone.

Thanks

Progesterone and male pattern baldness?
by: Wray

Hi Kees Both men and women can use progesterone safely. We do have a page on Hair Loss which hopefully will give you enough info to reassure you about progesterone. There are other supplements too which help hair, the page mentions them. Take care Wray

Thanks for the response.
I'm a little confused how much I should use. I was planning to use 8-10mg a day but I read that taking too little can result in too much estrogen.
Like I said I don't have any particular issues besides early MPB. Would 8-10mg be a good starting point?

Hi Kees Most men are told to use about 10mg/day, I tend to err on the higher side, i.e. 100mg/day. I've found too little can cause Oestrogen Dominance, in men too. But why not give the 10mg/day a try and see if it helps, or causes adverse symptoms. In which case you would need to increase it. But please have a Vitamin D test done. It's low in people living in Europe and is essential for hair. Take care Wray

Thanks a lot for your help. I have one more question, the bottle suggests two pea size dobs of cream. How many mg of progesterone would this be? I have a hard time actually weighing it.

Hi Kees I can't help with your query as I don't know what progesterone cream you are using. If it were our cream I could, and there are very detailed instructions and measurements on our page How to use Progesterone Cream. Take care Wray
