Hi Jenni. High androgens cause hirsutism. Have you been checked for PCO, as hirsutism is one of the symptoms? The underlying cause of PCO is insulin resistance. An excess of oestrogen can be another cause, as this excess is converted into androgens. In either of these cases progesterone can help, but if it's PCO the insulin resistance has to be addressed too. We do have a web page on PCO which explains what occurs, I'll give the link below:
