Severe Menstrual Blood Loss Stopped by Natpro

by Carol
(Texas)

I am 53 years old and have been having VERY heavy periods for approximately 12-15 years. Approximately 7 months ago, I ended up in the emergency room because I was having yet another heavy cycle and had reached the point where I could hardly stand up because I was so weak. I barely managed to avoid a blood transfusion because I was so anemic. They did an ultrasound and said there wasn't a thing wrong with me except that my hormones were out of whack. If I bent over, I nearly passed out and I could continually hear my heartbeat in my ears whether I was in bed or sitting or standing. I suffered from severe shortness of breath and heart palpitations because I was so anemic. I could barely stand long enough to do a few dishes and I could hardly function in my daily life.

I had been given one dose of synthetic hormones which just delayed the inevitable heavy cycle a week or so. I was very leary of using the synthetic hormone and began to search the internet for a possible natural solution.

When I found the Natpro, I was so hopeful that it could solve my problems. I began using it and it immediately improved my outlook and my ability to sleep. However, I was so very 'estrogen dominant' that I knew it was going to take a good while before my heavy cycles would get turned around. When I would have a heavy cycle, I increased the use of Natpro from twice daily to 5-6 times daily. I also used a DIM supplement twice daily for the last 7 months (DIM helps absorb excess estrogen and move it out of your body). To slow down the out-of-control bleeding, I used liquid cayenne in water and it did help.

I have seen such an improvement over the last 7 months - I no longer have cycles too close together and when I do have one, it is what I would call normal! In fact, my periods are getting farther apart and I hope they will stop altogether in the near future (menopause). I am still having to supplement with a plant-source iron because the anemia was such a problem. I haven't had to use the Natpro at the elevated dose of 5-6 times daily during my cycle for several months BECAUSE MY CYCLE HAS BEEN NORMAL! I just use it every day in the morning and before bed. I will use this cream until the day I die - it just makes sense to keep using the hormone that we are deficient in.

I would like to extend this testimony as a ray of hope for women who, like myself, have no pathology but have severe bleeding during their cycle because of excess estrogen. If you have known the terror of the huge clots and gushes of blood in the shower and toilet and the embarassment of having to ask your friends and family if the back of your clothes are alright, take it from me, it may take a while, but just stick with it - your body will eventually reach a saturation level with the progesterone and things will start to turn around.

I appreciate the high quality and the high mg dosage of this cream - thanks for helping me get my life back!

Bless you Carol for sharing this story! I do hope others take courage from it. One of my hardest jobs is to persuade women with severe symptoms to use a high dose, and to use it more than once or twice a day. And to persevere through the sometimes appalling oestrogen dominance symptoms!

I'm currently helping someone with the same symptoms as you, and the bleeding has stopped completely. Luckily for me (and her!), her doctor knew what he was doing and had prescribed 900mg/day before she wrote to me, so the convincing had been done! I suggested she dropped the dose to 600mg/day but use it hourly, which still worked. She then dropped it to 450mg/day and it still worked. So as you found, it's far more effective using multiple doses than using it only once or twice a day. And thanks for the kind words about the cream! Take care, Wray

What is a DIM supplement? I have never heard of DIM and do not know what it is and what it is used for. Does it come in a pill form and how often do you take it and how much do you take? It is mentioned that liquid cayenne was used in water. Again, I don't think I have seen cayenne in a liquid form and would not know where to get it. How much do you take and how often? Also, what is it suppose to do for you?

Wray suggested I take NAC with the Natpro cream and from farther reading on this site I have ordered a vitamin D supplement that is 10,000 IU per pill. I hope that is enough IU'S or not too much? I really got so many different recommendations of the proper amount to take and the were so low as 200 IU's all the way up to 20,000 IU's. I was unsure as what to believe.

I would welcome comments about the vitamin D amounts to take and about about the DIM and the cayenne.

Hi Susie Oestrogen is broken down into 2 principle metabolites, 2-hydroxyestrone (2-OHE1) and 16-alpha hydroxyestrone (16alpha-OHE1). 16alpha-OHE1 is regarded as a potent oestrogen, whereas 2-OHE1 is a weak oestrogen. DIM increases levels of 2-OHE1, by doing so it also increases the ratio of 2-OHE1:16alpha-OHE1. This increased ratio is associated with a lower risk for breast cancer, see here. Other studies have found a protective role too. It is a pill and you'd have to go by the recommendations on the container. I've not heard of liquid cayenne either, but you can put the powder into some water or juice and take it like that. Just be careful of the amount, as it does burn if too much is used. Some have found it helps reduce blood pressure, but cayenne is an anti-inflammatory, so would help the inflammation found in the uterus from heavy bleeding. I have answered your vitamin D question on your other page. There are so many conflicting opinions it is difficult to sort out the mess. I think Dr Cannell's site is by the far the best for info, plus GrassrootsHealth, see Vitamin D Council and GrassrootsHealth. They send out test kits, so does Birmingham Hospital. They have the cheapest ones, you get the result by email, it costs about $47. Take care Wray

hi...im curious as to how much powdered cayenne in water is used and how often to take it. im willing to try it seeing as how my bleeding has been going on since the first week of February and started the natpo a month ago and have been on the NAC and tyrosine for 2 months now and its not helping yet and I use a tube of natpro every 3-4 days. I don't even bother to measure it out because I know im using more then 400mg a day at this rate.

Hi there I suggest you start with no more than 1/8th teaspoon cayenne. If that doesn't burn your mouth you could increase further. I'm pleased you're trying the NAC, at least 2000mg/day, but you say tyrosine? It's taurine you need, see here. About 2000mg/day, plus at least 5000iu/day vitamin D, this depends on your level. And 1000mg/day bioflavonoids, see here and here. The first paper has no abstract, but the second gives a resume of it. There's more info on our Menstruation page. Please have a vitamin D test done. For more info on vitamin D levels, test kits etc see the Vitamin D Council, GrassrootsHealth and Birmingham Hospital. Blood levels should be 70-100ng/ml (175-250nmol/L) and not the 30ng/ml (75nmol/L) most labs and doctors regard as adequate. The minimum daily dose should be 5000iu's per day, although recent research indicates it should be 10,000iu's per day, see here. You're using between 500 to 670mg/day progesterone. I don't think you need quite as much, particularly if you get your vitamin D levels up high. A lack of this reduces the benefits of progesterone. It's also a potent anti-inflammatory. Let me know how you get on. Take care Wray

hi..im sorry yes its taurine im taking not tyrosine. im taking 2000 of it and also 3000 of NAC. I lowered the natpro to 1teaspoon 2x daily.im getting the 10,000 vitamin D today. I go to see my dr. next month so ill ask him to do the test on me then. before I started the natpro and NAC and taurine I was bleeding so heavy with gigantic clots. they were just awful never seen anything like it before or felt anything like that before in my life. now I seem to only have clots in the morning and sometimes during the day but they are only about the size of a nickel to a quarter now. I have bright red blood but no where near as bad as before but still bleeding. sometimes during the day I get only spotting with bright to dark red blood. I having cramping like PMS all the time but I cant tell when im having a period now or if im even having one because im always bleeding and cramping and lower back pain. I feel more pain on my right side where my ovary is. sometimes it feels like burning and stinging. I hate it. so im hoping after I start the 10,000 vitamin D today with the natpro and NAC and taurine ill quit bleeding. I been bleeding since the first week of February. at least now its under somewhat control then it was then. any suggestions? I hope im doing every thing right now....thank you

Hi there I pleased it was the taurine! Well it seems things are coming right for you, I'm delighted about this. The bleeding sounds too awful, those clots! At least it's slowed down, don't forget the uterus is highly inflamed and will need time to heal. And please add the bioflavonoids to the protocol you're taking, these will also help as they strengthen capillaries. Please rub the progesterone all over the area you have pain, I've found if applied directly to the spot it works quicker. You say you lowered the progesterone, was that due to cost? As I have found 400mg/day is needed, often more. Once things are under control you could lower it. But it appears you are still bleeding daily. The higher dose vitamin D should help, as it does affect progesterone, but you have only just increased it. Any inflammation drops vitamin D levels, and high doses are needed to bring the level up, but again time is needed. Please let me know the results of your test, and how you get on. Take care Wray

Hi there I'm delighted you are feeling so much better. It's interesting you say started feeling sick, the NAC can cause nausea in some. So too can oestrogen, as it stimulates substance P, this neuropeptide causes pain and nausea. Progesterone stimulates oestrogen if not enough is used. Please just keep a look our for symptoms coming back as it's early days yet to stop everything. Although you are taking the vitamin D which really pleases me and I know this has a huge bearing on how we feel, please don't stop taking it! And I do hope your husband is happy about your surprise evening, what a lovely thing to do. Bless you for the kind words too! Take care Wray
