Saliva test or blood test results?

by Caroline
(California)

Hi..I am 51 years old and have been going through perimenopause for awhile. I get tests done for my hormones and my regular doctor does saliva testing while my naturpathic doc does blood work. On my saliva test it shows my estrogen/ progesterone in the normal range but when I do the blood work it shows my progesterone low as well as my estrogen. I've been on progesterone cream for awhile but took a 6 mos break and now have restarted because I am getting cramping and hot flushes. Anyway which tests should I go by? Very confusing. Thanks.

Saliva test or blood test results?

Hi Caroline

Please read the Hormone Testing page, it will tell you what your ratio should be, which is 600:1. If you have both saliva and blood results, work them both out and see what you get, they should both give you the same result. I never accept the word ‘normal’ for tests results, please go by the testing page as these results are correct.

When in Peri-menopause progesterone should be used every day with no breaks at all, the minute you stop using progesterone the Oestrogen Dominance symptoms will return. It is also important to use a cream that has the correct progesterone concentration .

Do you know what your Vitamin D level is, as a deficiency reduces the benefits of progesterone.
