Please Help

I explained to people before that I was on dhea, testosterone and oral progesterone and I gained 20lbs in 2 months, since May 20th I stopped the oral progesterone, and around the 30th I stopped the Dhea and testosterone. I am wondering about wild Yams, I know this is supposed to be different and the information states on one hand that wild yams can help with premenopausal symptoms and another source says that yams can help the body produce it's own progesterone.

I have tried this and the first day I became bloated and now I am afraid that this may have progesterone in this. The progesterone made me gain weight. I was on oral and I know this is cream 1/4-1/2 teaspoon. I am afraid since I feel the bloat I will produce estrogen and begin to gain weight, I need some sort of relief, but not weight. Most of every complaint I have read on various sites by women is Progesterone made them gain weight and this was bioidentical cream.

I am bloated and I'm afraid I will gain, should I just stop everything? I mentally won't be well if I gain weight. Years ago I was on Depo Provera shot and gained 50lbs, I dieted and couldn't lose any weight until 2 or 3 months after I stopped the shot. Can anyone help me? Wray, please some advice. Thanks.

Hi Lorrie Well I'm relieved you've stopped the DHEA, it can cause cysts and cancer, and I don't believe any woman needs extra testosterone either. Oral progesterone is the least affective delivery system, as most of it get destroyed by the gut and liver, please see here. And here. Progesterone does have a stimulatory affect initially, but once it becomes the dominant hormone, things calm down. I don't think you ever reached that point, as the amount of progesterone you were getting was far too low. All it did was stimulate oestrogen production, which causes both water retention and an increase in fat cells. Progesterone is such an excellent diuretic it's now given via IV transfusion to brain trauma victims to prevent the oedema that forms after the injury. Not only does oestrogen stimulate fat cells to divide and multiply, but fat cells also make oestrogen, so a vicious cycle is started. All BCP's cause insulin resistance, I wouldn't be surprised if you had this, for more info please see here. Take care Wray
