Oral contraceptive to relieve symptoms of PCOS

by Liesl
(South Africa)

I have PCOS and have been on OC's for over 10 years to mask the symptoms (acne, hirsuitism). I would like to start using progesterone cream to possibly reverse the PCOS, but my main concerns are that I will get acne or fall pregnant.

I am in a committed relationship and will be prepared to get a copper T IUD. Have women who have suffered from acne who were prescribed progesterone cream had good results? However being on OC's, I still suffer from excessive hair growth. Am I correct in my assumption that progesterone will help balance things out?

Progesterone & PCOS
by: Anonymous

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2001, but I have had it all my life. It just got a name in 2001... I had irregular periods since I started my mens... doctors recommeded bc & it did correct the problem -- the 1st time I was off the bc I got pregnant --wanted a baby... the 2nd time I tried to have a baby I ended up with 2 miscarriages before I realized what my body was missing. It was missing progesterone. I had tried metformin with no help but progesterone cream has worked for me. I have been getting my menstrual like clock work since I started using the progesterone cream in November 08. If you are like me with PCOS I recommend you try progesterone cream before metformin. A PCOS friend of mine has started using progesterone cream and it has helped her ovulate as well..
