Arctium lappa L (burdock root extract) affect on women? (ingredient in progesteron cream)

by M
(Michigan)

I use Natpro (about 400mg per day). I am in menopause and that dose helps minimize my hot flushes.
I ran out of Natpro (and Natpro was out of stock) so ordered some bioidentcal progesterone cream from another store. I noticed that the cream I bought contains burdock root extract. I did some searching online and found claims that it increases testosterone in humans? does anyone know if this is true? does it affect women that way? or any other bad side effects from burdock root? Now I am afraid to use it and Natpro is still out of stock

Thank you for any help or suggestions much appreciated.

Sincerely,
M

Hi M I can't find any reference to burdock increasing testosterone. It is a widely used herb, especially for blood purification, it's an antioxidant and an excellent diuretic. In the far east it's eaten regularly as part of the diet. It has been used to help skin problems so is used in creams to this effect. The amount used would be very small, so I don't think you need concern yourself about the possible increase in testosterone. This is a good article here. I'm sorry about the stock outs, I do know stock has come in recently, but after a stock out it tends to go out again very quickly as people order. We do have a distributor in NY, her name is Jules, please contact her via her email julesvs19@gmail.com Take care Wray
