Weight Problems

by Janet
(Mercer)

Should I increase my progesterone if I still cannot loose any weight despite exercise and watching food intake. Hot flashes are much better, just a few during the day and night.
But the weight just won't budge and I still feel bloated and feel like I have water retention.

Hi Janet

How does one reply to this? How much progesterone are you using daily and is it a cream or oral progesterone?

If you are using oral you would not be getting enough progesterone as 96% is destroyed by the gut and liver, it is not the best delivery method - see here. If you are using a cream nothing less than 100mg/3ml per day is recommended more if symptoms are severe.

Weight gain/water retention can take place when not enough progesterone is used.

Please make sure that the progesterone cream used contains the correct amount of progesterone concentration otherwise it will take longer to work and causes estrogen dominance symptoms - see here and here.

For hot flushes you need to use 400mg per day for 4 to 5 days or until the flushes have cleared completely, then you can reduce the cream very slowly to a level that suits you.

Take care.

Weight gain and Flashes
by: Janet

Thank you for commenting Joy, I appreciate your help. I am on cream progesterone a bioidentical prescription of 100 ml
I have tried to use 200 ml in the am and 200 ml in the pm as it has said on this site. The hot flashes have subsided mostly during the day, they still come and go, but at night they are still every 30 minutes or hour. Keeping me up all night. Not sure if I should increase the dose at night? How much would be too much?
I was on Estrodial cream also, but felt all the estrogen dominance symptoms that everyone talks about. water retention, weight gain, miserable. I stopped that about 1 month ago. My doctor just tells me to experiment with the dose until I find one that works!! That isn't as easy as it sounds.

I would like to switch to this progesterone, but need to use up the presc. cream since I have paid for three months worth already.
