Using the Wiley protocal and hair still coming out

by Judy
(Maryland)

The wiley protocal consists of estrogen and progesterone. I have been using this for about six months and my hair is still coming out with no signs of it starting to grow back.

After reading your website, seems like I shouldn't have been using the estrogen at all. Would you agree? Before I started with this protocol I was just using progesterone and my hair started coming out. I guess I wasn't using enough progestrone. I followed the directions on the tube but I guess it wasn't enough, I just ordered the Natpro and am anxiously awaiting its arrival.

hair loss

You might want to have your thyroid checked. Hypothyroidism can cause hair loss.

Hi Judy I don't believe any of us need more oestrogen, we get far too much as it is. It's in our food, water, air, the skin care we use, particularly suncreens, and more. Please see the website Our Stolen Future. When initially using progesterone it does stimulates oestrogen, with it's attendant problems, see our page on Oestrogen Dominance for more info. Believe it or not, women secrete more androgens than oestrogen, see here.. Excess LH also stimulates proliferation, differentiation, and secretion of androgens by the theca cells which surround the ovum. This rise is responsible for acne, oily skin, facial hair, hair loss etc. With excess androgens, oestrogen also increases. The androgens, notably androstendione, migrate from the theca cells to the granulosa cells where it is converted by the enzyme aromatase into oestrogen, particularly oestradiol. The theca cells also produce oestradiol without the need for conversion. But high oestrogen also increases thecal cell proliferation, a vicious cycle. The enzyme 5 alpha-reductase converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is implicated in alopecia. Progesterone inhibits 5 alpha-reductase activity by about 97%, see here. Progesterone also suppresses excess oestrogen and the androgens.

There is some evidence that insulin resistance plays a role, as excess insulin stimulates androgen production, see here. I've found between 100-200mg/day is needed, more if symptoms are severe. Please consider taking 2000mg/day N-acetyl cysteine, 2000mg/day inositol, 2-3mg/day biotin and 100mg/day thiamine (B1). All these are known to help hair growth. Take care Wray

Wray, in your response, you suggested that I take 100-200mg of something that had to do with insulin resistance but forgot to type it. Would you please let me know what that is?

Hi Judy That was very obtuse of me, apologies! What I should have said is "I've found between 100-200mg/day progesterone is needed, more if symptoms are severe." I hope you're using somewhere within this range. How's the hair loss, I hope improved? Hair takes about a month to grow 1/2 inch, so don't expect fast results. Take care Wray

Using Natpro for three months now
by: Judy

Hi Wray, I've been using 200 mg of Natpro daily for three months and I am still having night sweats. The hot flashes have disappeared but in the morning just as I am about to wake up, I start sweating. Should I use a little more Natpro? I am using the max recommended dosage already.

Hi Judy I did say 100-200mg/day progesterone, more if symptoms are severe. I've found hot flushes/night sweats disappear or reduce remarkably on 400mg/day for about 4-5 days. The amount should then be reduced very slowly till the optimum is found. Bearing in mind stress drops progesterone levels, so more is needed to prevent symptoms returning. So please try increasing it and see if that helps. It also sounds as if your blood glucose is dropping too low overnight. Please try having a protein meal at night, no carbs and see if that helps. Another thing you could try is 2000-4000mg of the amino acid glutamine before you go to bed. This also helps stabilise blood glucose. If it drops too low some of the symptoms that can be experienced are hot flushes/night sweats, headaches, cold clammy skin, a racing heart, anxiety and nausea. I do hope the sweats go soon, it does take time. Take care Wray
