Unsure if I need this cream - confused!

by Vanessa
(Colorado Springs, USA)

I'm 43 years old with 3 kids aged 15, 13 and 8. I had a tubal ligation after my youngest's birth. The last couple of years have been increasingly difficult, feeling awful but too many symtoms to point to an answer.

Periods started coming more often - every 23 or 24 days as opposed to being regular as clockwork every 28. More painful and heavy for 3 days, nothing the fourth and a small amount the next 2 days. More concerning was the anxiety I was feeling - I got very scary depersonalisation quite a bit with no pattern I could follow. Eventually I started getting full blown panic attacks from nowhere and generally just feeling I was going crazy - thoughts buzzing round in my head stopping me sleeping, irrational conversations with myself, etc etc. My doc has tried me on several different anti deps - all with horrendous side effects I couldn't tolerate - the only med I can use to help is Xanax - one .5mg in the a.m. which seems to help.

I had a pelvic scan a couple of weeks ago along with a comprehensive blood test. The bloods came back normal and the only significant sign on my ultrasound was that my left ovary has shrunk, which my new doc has told me is a classic sign of perimenopause!! I cried when she told me cos now I can put my finger on a diagnosis. We talked and discussed hrt as a course of action. Too scared to try for a week but got desperate and started them. Within a week I started feeling a little better emotionally, but omg the baaaaaaaaad stomach cramps I couldn't ignore. Anyway, I stopped taking them yesterday and already my stomach feels better but I am still searching for help with my problems. I've tried every natural cure I could come accross and none seemed to make a dent in any of my issues. Now i am here and wondering if you think this could really be beneficial for me. How do I know if I just need progesterone? My doc was quite adamant that I need estrogen and progesterone, but then also freely admitted that she didn't know enough about progesterone creams to comment on their worth. I would love to know if your product can help me, and if so, what would be the most helpful way for me to use it. Thanks for reading my novella!!

Unsure if I need this cream - confused!

Hi Vanessa Excellent novella! Gives me enough info to go on. Although tubal ligations can play havoc with our hormones, this normally occurs shortly after having it done. So I think after eight years that can be eliminated. That leaves P-M, for more info please see our page on Peri-menopause. I'm in no doubt this is the reason for your symptoms, strange as they might seem to you. It can be the most hectic time, but needn't be if progesterone is used, this smoothes out the rough ride. I'm relieved you've stopped the HRT, you might be too once you've read the page. I don't believe anyone needs more oestrogen, we already have too much. It's in our food, water, air and the skin care we use, particularly sunscreens. For more info please see this excellent website Our Stolen Future. We do have a questionnaire you might like to do here. Panic attacks can occur when blood glucose, GABA or progesterone drops too low. Please see our page on Anxiety. When your blood tests came back 'normal', I doubt if your doctor looked at the ratio of progesterone to oestrogen. This is the critical result, not the actual levels. From saliva tests we run, we've found the ratio of progesterone to oestrogen should be over 600:1 to feel really well. If you should consider progesterone, please use between 100-200mg/day. This is higher than that recommended by most doctors or other sites, but from experience and reading hundreds of studies, I've found anything lower merely results in oestrogen dominance. This can occur, but generally if a high enough amount of progesterone is used it doesn't or is mild enough to cope with. It's essential to read this page before you start progesterone. Take care Wray
