Switching to Natrol Brand

Hello, I am 55 years old and have been using a Bioidentical cream 40 mg daily for 6 months for vaginal dryness and atrophy. It actually helped but if I miss a day the pain would come back quickly.

I have purchased Natrol and have been reading all of your literature online. I have gained weight quickly 6lbs seemingly overnight. I have been using Natrol 50mg a day for approximately one week. Even though my vaginal atrophy has been addressed should administer 100mg a day to remedy possible water weight/weight and when will I know to lower the dose?

Thank you

Hi there

You are not using enough progesterone which is causing problems. Between 100-200mg per day is needed. Using a lower amount will aggravate estrogen receptors and in some women can cause weight gain. Please increase to 100mg per day and see how you get on. You may need to increase the amount, you will have to experiment to see what works for you but never use less than 100mg per day. Use half the amount in the morning and the other half at night. It is excellent when inserted into the vagina at night. Progesterone therapy can take between 2-6 months before positive results are felt.

Please read the How to use progesterone cream and Estrogen Dominance pages. You might also like to read the Peri-Menopause and Menopause pages.

Make sure that your Vitamin D3 level is correct. Vitamin D3 is very important, a deficiency reduces the benefits of progesterone. Nothing less than 5,000iu's per day is needed. Optimal range is between 70-100ng/ml. Magnesium and vitamin K2 with no soy are important co-factors needed when taking vitamin D3. See The Vitamin D Council.
