Should I take progesterone?

by Lisa
(Canada)

I am 25 years old. When I did my IUI my doctor advised me to insert progesterone supp 200 MG twice a day. Is it good for me to get pregnant?

Should I take progesterone supp 200 mg from day 15 to 28th day to get pregnant?

Should I take progesterone?

Hi Lisa. I'm a bit confused as you say you had an IUI procedure, are you not pregnant now? In which case you must follow what your doctor has advised, which is an extremely good dose of progesterone. He obviously does not want you to have a miscarriage. If you only use it while pregnant from day 15 to 28 this will be far too erratic and probably cause a miscarriage. If on the other hand you are not pregnant, then the progesterone should only be used from ovulation, this is always 14 days before we bleed. If you have a 28 day cycle using it from day 15 is correct, but if your cycle is longer or shorter it's not. For more info on pregnancy please see here. Take care, Wray
