Prometrium 100 mg capsules

by Leslie
(Michigan)

Hello, I was recently started on Prometrium 100 mg at night. I have noticed that these are upsetting my stomach and I feel drugged into the next day even. I heard you could pierce the capsules and use the liquid topically. I tried this once and I experienced heart palpitations, whether due from this or something else, I'm not sure.

I'm thinking about trying this topically again. I just wanted to confirm that this was okay to do and are you supposed to rotate the areas where you place the cream, such as inner arm 1 night and then maybe the thigh the next? Thanks

Hi Leslie

Yes, you can pierce the capsule and use topically. However, progesterone should be used no less than twice a day, half the amount in the morning and the other half at night. This helps progesterone levels to remain stable. Heart palpitations are common when first using progesterone, it is one of the many Estrogen Dominance symptoms experienced. Using too little progesterone can cause severe heart palpitations. Usually between 100-200mg per day is needed. You may need to use more, it all depends on how severe your symptoms are and you may need to experiment to see what works for you best. Progesterone therapy does take time, between 2-6 months, possibly longer before positive results are felt. Please read the How to use Progesterone Cream page for more information. If Prometrium does not help you, please consider using a good organic progesterone cream such as Natpro.

Progesterone can be used all over the body, you can rotate if you feel like it, that is entirely up to you.

Do I need to cycle Prometrium 100mg
by: Anonymous

Hello

I have been back on Prometrium for just under a year now, 100 mg at bedtime. I am post-menopausal (5 yrs) and finding that lately I have a lot of breast/armpit tenderness and discomfort. I stopped 3 days ago to take a break and the tenderness went away immediately. Should I be cycling the prometrium, taking a few days/week off each month? or longer.

Thank you

Hi there

You haven't been using progesterone correctly. Progesterone should be used no less than twice a day, half the amount in the morning and the other half at night. Usually between 100-200mg per day is needed, more if symptoms are severe, please read the How to use Progesterone Cream page. Usually women in Peri-Menopause and Menopause benefit by using the cream every day with no breaks. I suggest that you increase the amount of progesterone used and use every day, it should help.

Breast tenderness could mean that you are lacking in iodine.
