Progesterone saved me from losing my baby

by Nancy Reinitz
(Calera, Alabama 35040)

My husband and I were trying very hard to have a baby. We did everything we knew how to do to enhance our chances. This was in the late 60"s.

After so much investment, we sort of gave up. Then I missed a period and after 2 weeks, which was very unusual for me to go that long without a period. I was called on the phone. On the other end of the phone, I heard, "Mrs. Crawford,? Your're pregnant!" I was dumbfoundede! Scared and frightened. I told her that I had began bleeding as if having a period and she instructed me to get to the doctor ASAP!

To make a long story short, the doctor instructed me to let him give me progesterone shots. He said it was the only way to save the baby. I said, "Let's do it".

With progesterone shots and 4 months, practically on my back... I came out of the iffy pregnancy into the definate pregnancy.

She's 42, beautiful, talented, skilled, smart and she's God's and my creations! Nothing better ever happened to me.

This is such an amazing story. Who would have thought that in the 60's any doctor would have known to use natural progesterone!

Hi Nancy Thanks so much for sharing this story. It's always so encouraging for others to read they are not alone. As a matter of fact Dr Dalton (UK) was using progesterone shots and suppositories in the late 40's for her patients. So it's been safely used for over 60 years now, and the problems it's used for have increased hugely since those days. It's even given via IV transfusion to brain trauma victims to prevent oedema forming, saving many lives in the process. Incidentally, over 70% of the victims are men. I wish I had known about it 30 years ago, I had 5 miscarriages, all of which need never have happened. Luckily I stopped working, so reducing my stress levels and had a daughter too. Take care Wray

wow!

I actually started crying while reading your story now.

I found out about 3 weeks ago that I am pregnant, I also started bleeding, but it was only after my 1st internal sonar, offcourse I was histerical and I ended up phoning the Dr at 21h30 at night.

I went in the next day for another examination and everything was perfect, however, telling a pregnant woman its normal to bleed during pregnancy is kind of scary. You tend to think that pregnancy is beautiful and perfect and when you experience this, its terrifying.

However, the Dr has put me on progesterone tablets which helps maintain the pregnancy, for now everything is looking very good and I hope that it will stay that way.

Especially reading your story, was very inspirational.

Regards
S

Hi Sue Unfortunately over 25% of all pregnancies end in a miscarriage, I had five before having my daughter. It's not as easy as it seems, in spite of all the unwanted babies in the world. Please make sure the progesterone you are taking is progesterone. Unless these are vaginal tabs which are effective, oral progesterone is the least effective Delivery system. It could also be Duphaston, which doctors favour over progesterone. Please consider taking vitamin D, it's vital for a healthy pregnancy and for the growing foetus, see here, here, here, here and here. This is an excellent video to watch too, see here. We do have a page on Pregnancy which you might find useful. Take care Wray
