No period after using natural progesterone cream

by RS
(California)

I used Emerita brand natural progesterone cream for the first time this cycle. My periods are consistently either day 26 or day 27. I stopped the progesterone cream on day 28 after confirming that I am not pregnant. It was already a couple of days late but I didn't think it was a problem, I assumed that as soon as I'm off the cream my period will come a couple of days later. Well, here I am 12 days later and still no period. I've had a bit of very light brown cervical mucus and spotting and then some pink spotting but that's it. I have not had a full on period. I'm concerned because I don't know how to proceed. I'm afraid the cream has hurt my cycle. Do I check for ovulation even if I have not had a real period this month? And if I do ovulate should I start up the cream again? Like I said I ovulate and have a consistent period with the exception of this month.
The reason I'm using the cream is because my husband and I are trying to conceive but I have a few very small fibroids and adenomyosis which the doctor says is in one small area of the uterus. Please help...how do I proceed? I'd like my cycle back to normal.

No period after using natural progesterone cream
by: Joy

Hi RS

Two things stand out here. First of all, no matter what brand you use, one can expect things to become irregular when using progesterone for the first time. Secondly, if you do not use enough progesterone concentration this will create problems too. Nothing less that 100-200mg per day, more if symptoms are severe, is needed of the correct progesterone concentration. Progesterone is not an overnight fix, it does take time. Progesterone should always be used from ovulation, for the last 12-14 days of the cycle. Please read How to use Progesterone Cream. I suggest that you use progesterone every day, with no stopping until your cycle returns to normal, then you can use it correctly by following your cycle again. Ignore any bleeding/spotting/clotting which may occur during this time, just continue to use the cream every day until your cycle returns to normal. Did you read up, or where you informed about Estrogen Dominance when starting progesterone therapy for the first time?

Progesterone will certainly help you with your Fibroids which are caused by oxidative stress, the inflammation needs to be addressed as explained on the page. Also important is Vitamin D, do you know what your level is as a deficiency reduces the benefits of progesterone, it is also connected to every single cell and it’s formation in our bodies making it vital. The Pregnancy page might also help you.

Hope this helps you.

Your thoughts.....

I started taking a cream one year ago (last June) I compared the levels according to your charts and took the right amount 200mg/day. I never had a disruption in my cycle. Sore chest and feeling of pregnancy but cycle still started as normal 24 days each month. I started your cream last month and used 200mg/day. 100 in the morning with Vitamin D and 100 at night with Vitamin D rotating to sites where I applied it. This month I did not get a period. So at day 26 I did a pregnancy test-negative. Continued on the cream hoping for pregnacy and a maybe a false test. Waited till day 28 and tested again. I have no symptoms of pregnancy. Loads of cramps but still a negative test. Then at day 29 I went off of the cream and waiting but still no period a few days later. A little stressed hoping it will come soon.

Hi Jan

The reason why you are experiencing this is because Natpro is much stronger than most of the other creams on the market. Even though you have been using progesterone for a year now, the other cream probably was not as strong. As your cycled has become erratic and needs to adjust, I suggest that you use progesterone every day with no breaks until your cycle returns to normal. You can then use the cream by following your cycle again. Please read How to use Progesterone Cream and the Estrogen Dominance pages.

If you are trying to conceive, the Pregnancy page will help you.

Delayed ovulation
by: Anonymous

I have just started taking progesterone as I have a short luteal phase.
I applied the cream after ovulation and 14 days later no period and a negative test. I stopped using the cream and my period came a few days later. So happy the cream worked and extended my luteall phase. My only issue now is, I am on day 17 of my cycle and no positive opk and no temperature rise. I usually ovulate anywhere from day 12-16. Is it usual for delayed ovulation after using progesterone cream? for the first time on a previous cycle?

Many thanks, Chantelle

Delayed Ovulation

Hi Chantelle

Your body is still adjusting to progesterone and needs time to adjust. Your cycle will return to normal once the body has adjusted.
