My Mom needs HELP, and I will do anything possible to make her feel happy again!!

by Kelly Jo
(Lebanon, Mo, USA)

Hello, I am reaching out today because my mom (who is 64 years old) went through a Total Hysterectomy approx 20 years ago. She had endometriosis. She had no help from the Doctors back then. I'm pretty sure the Dr prescribed her some kind of patch they used back then, but she hated the way it made her feel and was scared of the side effects.

Fast forward twenty years... We have watched my mom lose every bit of her happiness and quality of life. I recently have started HRT with my physician (I am 43) I am taking Progesterone tablets (maybe I need the cream after reading alot of this forum) and testosterone cream (maybe I dont need it??) I am still learning. After I started learning about hormones, I spoke to Mom about going to the Dr. She finally did (one month ago) and the Dr prescribed her something like Estroidal or something like that. I am sure it is Fake stuff? My mom can not afford to go to the HRT doctor where I go and she will not allow me to pay for her to go.

We have watched my Momma go from the sweetest mother in the world to someone who we really dont even know anymore?? She constantly is sweating like crazy, she says she hates the way she looks, how she feels, and also how bad the sweating is that she really wont even come out of her house at all. She has had Hot Flushes for TWENTY YEARS. Thats INSANE!!

All I am looking for is someone that could help out with what she should do? Do you think that Progesterone only would help her? I forgot to to mention that she is also HYPO and takes medicine for that also.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart...From the daughter who just wants her sweet loving mother back.

Kelly Jo

Mom needs help...

I am so very sad to hear what your mother and you are going through.
I believe you have come to the right place for help. And that help is progesterone. The late Dr. Dalton, who coined the phrase PMS said, and I slightly paraphrase, "What women go through! If only they knew about progesterone!" Please read through the pages here about estrogen dominance. I would strongly advise that you do not take HRT or testosterone or estradiol.

I think back to when I was a younger women (I am 68) in my 30's and the outbreaks of depression, mood swings, you name it. I knew nothing about natural progesterone and its myriad benefits. In my early 40's it was suggested that I take HRT and sadly, I did, for a number of years. It was not what I needed. I also took small amounts of natural progesterone cream, the usual (and far too low!) 40mg. I went off the HRT at around 2003 because of a scare. I continued with low amounts of natural progesterone. Now skip to my early 60's, actually around the age of your mother, I began having hot flashes, sweats. I never had them before and then I suddenly began to have them. Then I asked the doctor I was seeing at the time if estradiol and/or estriol would be good to add? "It wouldn't hurt", she said. Wouldn't hurt!? When I began to take some estradiol compounded from a pharmacy, fat was starting to accumulate around my hip area, my breasts began to get uncomfortably large. Never had I had that because I am very slim. Oh boy, that is when I took matters into my own hands and began the research, just like you are doing. I came across this web site and my life changed - for the better.

The late Wray Whyte devoted over 20 years helping women because she herself went through hell as a younger women. Once I stopped the idea of estrogens being added as a supplement (sadly the environment we live in has over 100 mimics in food, you name it!) and took only progesterone as directed, my flashes stopped, body weight great, mood stabilized, etc. I started out with 100mg and worked my way up to what I now take which is 300mg. Sometimes I have taken more.

Please read this website. I sincerely believe your mother and you yourself will be helped. Remember too that when you add more progesterone, initially you may have increased symptoms while the progesterone attempts to emerge as the dominant hormone. For years the estrogens having been doing their nasty work and it will take time to balance. Don't give up! Nothing less than between 100mg-200mg should be used, and more when symptoms are severe.

I wish you and your dear mother all the best. I hope my two cents worth has helped a tiny bit. It was from my heart.

Your poor mom!
by: Rachel

What a lovely daughter you are. Your poor mum. It’s not fair she’s felt so bad for so long. I suggest you join one of the many bio-identical hormone pages on Facebook and ask their advice too. There are some very knowledgeable people out there. I will get you a link. But she may need to do some blood tests to see where her hormones are at. This site is for progesterone cream. Your mum may need more than just progesterone as it never stopped my hot flashes. I needed estrogen too.
Off to get you a link.
Regards,
Rachel

Hi Kelly Jo

Oral progesterone is the least effective as 96% gets destroyed by the gut and liver. A good progesterone cream such as Natpro is the best Delivery Method. Between 100-200mg is usually needed. In your mom's case she would need between 400-500mg per day to help with her Hot Flashes. Once they clear she can slowly reduce the amount to a level that suits her. It does take time to work if used correctly.

Drug based HRT has a potential to cause harm. Please consider using progesterone only. You are also in Peri-Menopause which can be a terrible time. Progesterone will help you.

Please read the How to use Progesterone Cream and Estrogen Dominance pages.

Vitamin D3 is also very important as a deficiency reduces the benefits of progesterone. Optimal level is between 70-100ng/mL and nothing less than 5,000iu's is needed per day. Co-factors are needed when taking D3, magnesium and vitamin K2 with no soy are the important ones.
