Menopause No period for 6 months

Hi
2019 was the year from hell with all my Peri symptoms that almost sent me into the river in despair. Insomnia, dry skin, depression worse then I've ever experienced in my life and horrendous anxiety which caused nausea, which stopped me eating. Then the hot flashes started and i got up to 20 a day, night sweats at night. I lost too much weight and became close to anemic. Waking in a ball of fear everyday is horrific.

I am/was a very creative and productive artist/musician..my symptoms..particularly the anxiety put a complete stop to all that and left me a broken shell of the person I used to be. I recently upped my dose of Prozac to 15mg cos I couldn't take it anymore and I think that's stopped the anxiety/flashes..for now.

I've been advised by my menopause specialist to take transdermal HRT /Estrogel and Utrogestan..I'm very reluctant to do this as I'm not convinced its the answer, plus I had a horrible experience on Progesterone in Femeston 1.10. I've ordered The Natpro cream as I'm pretty sure I'm not out of the woods with symptoms and they'll probably come back, in which case I'd like to try the cream.
I haven't had a period in 6 months. I've been through all the short/long/flooding periods.

My question is..if I start the cream can I stay on it indefinitely and what happens of I stop?. I'm afraid to start something that'll possibly make things worse as I will HRT will if I start /stop it and then I'm back to square one. They dont do saliva tests here(Ireland) only blood tests which aren't reliable at this point so I dont know my hormone levels. Would I need to get a saliva test done..by post..before I start treatment?

Hi there

Peri-Menopause can be a terrible time for most women. The correct use of Natpro should help you with this. Usually between 100-200mg per day is needed, but you may need to use more. It all depends on how severe your symptoms are. Use the cream every day with no breaks, use half the amount in the morning and the other half at night. Please read the How to use Progesterone Cream and Estrogen Dominance pages. A missed period for 12 months puts you in Menopause.

Please try to avoid taking HRT, they all have a potential to cause harm, see here.

Progesterone therapy takes time and patience, it can take 2-6 months before one notices changes, it may even take longer. It can make things worse in the beginning while your body adjusts to progesterone. Yes you can stay on the cream indefinitely and there is no need to have tests done before using progesterone.

You can order tests online, either ZRT Labs in the USA or Birmingham Hospital in the UK will do them.
