I am writing this for my sister who is 51 and six months ago had a mirena IUD removed after 10 years. She has struggled with mood swings and bouts of depression to some degree for years; but since having the IUD removed in June she has been living a nightmare. Terrible rages, panic attacks, depression, her memory is shot, thoughts of suicide, her hair is falling out, she is gaining weight, struggles to sleep, night sweats, hot flashes and just generally feels awful. She finally had her hormones checked and her doctor said both estrogen and progesterone are low. He told her the estrogen was 5mg, but didn't give her the progesterone number. She sees a nurse practitioner next week. In the meantime the doctor has ordered a biweekly estrodial patch. Also, she has high blood pressure which she is on medication for and her insulin is a little high. Suggestions for what she should discuss next week with the nurse practitioner?
