I need to find a reason and an answer to have a healthy baby

by Sara
(Bridgewater, MA)

I had two miscarriages and I will be twenty in a few months. The first I saw the baby everything was fine 4 days later it was dead.

I was about 12 weeks had dnc Second pregnancy about month and half after first baby. I was almost 12 weeks went for my check up baby was dead and very small and the dr said my placenta might have had a tear. Can this be low progesterone? I can't afford all the expensive tests.

I need to find a reason and an answer to have a healthy baby

Hi Sara It's difficult for me to say what the cause of the miscarriages are. Unfortunately it's only after you've had about 3 that they consider checking for progesterone levels. And then it's usually after the miscarriage when progesterone drops anyway, so a test then is useless. It needs to be done once pregnant and monitored as time passes. Miscarriages are often caused by a lack of progesterone. I've not heard of low progesterone being the cause of a tear, although it is vital for a successful implantation. If this is not good, the foetus gets insufficient nutrients to survive for long. We do have a page on Pregnancy. Please look through it if you do decide you should try progesterone, it gives info on how much and when to use it. Please also consider having a vitamin D test done. This is also vital for a successful pregnancy. Vital too for the growing foetus, see here, here, here, here and here. Another nutrient you might consider taking, also vital for the foetus, is the amino acid taurine, see here, here and here. Take care Wray

i know how you feel

I have also suffered two miscarriages. I was 28 when I first got pregnant. I lost the baby around 11 weeks, but the fetus had stopped growing 2-3 weeks before. I had a D&C and at my follow-up appointment was told that it was okay to try after one cycle, although they generally recommend women wait three cycles. So we tried again 7 weeks later and got pregnant right away (just like the first time). The weekend after we got a positive hpt I started my "period". I guess it was a chemical pregnancy. I actually felt more symptoms in that short time and thought it a good sign that this was a stronger pregnancy. I know you may be tired of hearing this but you're still very young and have many good years ahead of you. Maybe you can talk to your doctor about using a progesterone cream even if you don't get your levels tested right now (i know how expensive these tests are as i am now facing the decision to do them as well). I am going to ask if it's safe to use this as well as baby aspirin. The baby aspirin helps with blood clotting by thinning the blood. Some women have a blood clotting disorder that will form a blockage in the placenta, which in turn cuts off vital nutrients and oxygen from getting to the baby. Take care and don't lose hope okay? Sending good luck your way!
