Hysterectomy 3 months ago

by Helen
(LA ,CA)

Total hysterectomy in January, I have my ovaries still. I'm 45, 116lb. In February I did a mammogram plus ultrasound and I have very dense breast 75% cyst and fibroid, plus inflammation, doctor will check next month again.

I have changed my diet to vegan, no dairy. I use most natural stuff for cleaning personal use, but I haven't used progesterone. I use daily vitamints, "flax seed oil" (which some places (google) said is bad because is estrogenic, others said is good).

I know I'm estrogen dominant, how can and would progesterone help me? I'm a fan of natural and organic stuff.

Hi Helen

Having a hysterectomy whether it is a total one or partial like yours puts one straight into menopause. A total hysterectomy would be the removal of the ovaries as well. Progesterone will help you to deal with your estrogen dominance symptoms. Between 100-200mg per day is needed, however, as you have a fibroid which are caused by oxidative stress, you may need to use more. Progesterone does help the body to absorb small fibroids, larger one may require surgery. Most cysts are caused by excess estrogen, but please keep your eye on it.

Flax seeds/oil are slightly estrogenic, so take care with the amount that you eat.

Do you know what your Vitamin D3 level is? A deficiency reduces the benefits of progesterone. It is also connected to every single functioning cell in our bodies making it vital. Optimal range is between 70-100ng/mL. Magnesium is also very important.

Please read these pages and the references listed below as they will help you to understand how progesterone works and what is needed.
