Hormone migraines

by Kate
(Ontario)

I had partial hysterectomy at 42. Long history of hormone migrains led to week long headaches now at menopause 7 years later. They just wont go away. Even prescription Prometrium at 100mg doesn't help. Maybe I am not taking enough. I feel like crap all the time. I need help

Hi Kate Progesterone does help Migraines, but oral progesterone is the least effective Delivery system. "The liver and gut region removed a mean of 96 per cent of the progesterone entering these tissues", see here. I would switch to a cream, as this can be applied to the neck and under the ears, and goes directly into the area most affected. There's more info on our page How to use progesterone cream. I feel you will need at least 200mg/day possibly more. Take care Wray
