Duphaston

by Rashi
(Singapore)

Hi
I had a missed miscarriage about a year ago. In december 2013 again I got pregnant and dr. gave me duphaston 10mg twice a day orally. After three days I got my period and it was very heavy with bad cramps. Now again I am seven weeks pregnant. I had my first ultrasound in 6 1/2 weeks. Everything is normal. Dr. gave me duphaston 10mg to take orally. I am very scared now as I think duphaston is not suitable for me and my baby. I have next appointment on 16june 2014. I am also taking calcium, d3, vit e, vit c, vit zinc, folic acid since my last period that was on 7th april. Please suggest.

Duphaston

Hi Rashi

I do not blame you for being scared, duphaston contains dydrogesterone, a synthetic progestin. Because it's a progestin, it's not broken down into the normal progesterone metabolites. This is something which is never taken into account by doctors prescribing progestins. I suggest you use a natural progesterone, but one that contains the correct amount of progesterone concentration. Please also read the Pregnancy and Miscarriage pages. How to use Progesterone Cream will also help you.

How much Vitamin D are you taking, nothing less than 5000iu’s per day is recommended, and what is your level. A deficiency reduces the benefits of progesterone and is vital for conception and the unborn child.

Hope this helps you.
