Does progesterone really work?

I have been prescribed bioidentical progesterone topic gel for my perimenopausal spotting, because I have not stop bleeding since September. My doctor prescribed 15ml/day from day 1 to day 12 and 50ml/day from day 13 to 24.
Since I start with gel in 29 October, I have spotting all days. I’m very worried about that, because I thought that I would not have spotting while on progesterone. Does bioidentical progesterone really work? How long before I should expect to see an improvement? Thanks, I am very confused.
