Change in progesterone dosage

by GH
(PA)

Hi all!

I wrote here awhile ago when I was playing around with my dosage of progesterone. My doctor put me on oral progesterone, and I’ve been on it for almost a year now. I was on 100mg and it was too much, and they took me off cold turkey and I was having a lot of adverse reactions. Since then, they have put me on 50mg, and now just upped it to 75.

I just started my dosage of 75mg Friday, and I have been experiencing an increase of anxiety and just overall jittery (not sure if me having my period also amplifies this). Is this normal to have this happen when you start a new dosage?

Thanks so much!

Hi PA

I'm not surprised that you are feeling anxious and jittery. You have not been advised on how to use progesterone correctly. You will battle if you continue to use this way.

All forms of oral progesterone is not the best Delivery Method as around 96% gets destroyed by the gut and liver, see here. The 100mg taken in pill form is certainly not a high dose at all. In fact it has aggravated your estrogen receptors which is making you feel this way. Between 100-200mg progesterone cream is recommended. Please read the How to use Progesterone Cream page and take note of the Estrogen Dominance symptoms. Should you wish to continue with oral progesterone I highly recommend that you use cream as well.

Please make sure that your Vitamin D3 level is within range. It should be between 70-100ng/ml. A deficiency reduces the benefits of progesterone. It is connected to every single function cell in the body making it vital. Cofactors are needed.

All the best.

Hi Joy!

Thanks for getting back to me. I remember you saying that the best progesterone therapy is the cream, but do you know of any ways to increase progesterone naturally?

My D3 levels were a 32, and my doctor said he wanted them higher than that. So he put me on 10,000mu of D3 for 3 weeks, and I just went down to 1 pill now. Hopefully that will help raise my levels!

Thanks!

Hi there

I am assuming by saying naturally you mean the body. Unfortunately no there isn't. While the body makes it all the time, levels drop for various reasons, stress and the aging process to name but a few. Natpro is natural of course, the same that our body makes. I wouldn't use it otherwise.

I am pleased that your doctor advised you to take more D3. I often up my dose when stressed or illness i.e. flu etc. Both progesterone and D3 level drop when stressed etc. Stress causes other nutrients to drop as well.
