Best time to use

by Monicka
(Canada)

I am 48 and for the last month I have had major hot flashes, night sweats and my period is over two weeks late. I am never late so this is really odd. I have also been having headaches and some weight gain and having a lot of trouble getting rid of it. I feel really off.

I am just wondering if I start the cream how do I know when to use it? I have not had a period this month and so not sure if it is just late or the beginning of menopause.

Hope you can help?

Hi Monika The average age of menopause is 51. You're now in peri-menopause, which can start 10 years before menopause. It's a most difficult time, we do have more info on our page Peri-menopause. Although I recommend between 100-200mg/day progesterone, I've found if hot flushes are debilitating, 400mg/day is needed for about 4-5 days to stop them quickly. Oestrogen is a mitogen, causing cells to divide and multiply, including fat cells, hence the weight gain. It also causes insulin resistance, which can cause weight gain too. For more info on this, please see our page on Insulin Resistance. Oestrogen is also a pro-inflammatory hormone, so with the dropping progesterone levels you are now experiencing, it's causing the headaches. Progesterone is effective against migraines/headaches, please see here and here.
Take care Wray
