Hi June Progesterone does help the adrenals, particularly if stressed. The reason for this is cortisol, one of the stress hormones, is made in the adrenals from progesterone. But this causes progesterone levels drop, as the adrenals rob other sources, notably the ovaries. This then has repercussions on reproduction. By using supplemental progesterone, the strain on the adrenals and the ovaries is removed. Progesterone is also an anxiolytic, see here, here and here. By helping to calm us down, progesterone has an added affect. The B vitamins drop when stressed, so if this should occur please take a good multi vitamin. These are some herbs which have been known to help the adrenals.....astragalus, ginseng (Siberian), licorice, Rhodiola rosea, schizandra. If stressed consider taking the amino acid tyrosine. The adrenals need this to make the neurotransmitter dopamine, and the two stress hormones adrenaline and noradrenaline. Dopamine always drops when stressed, as it's the precursor to the two stress hormones. Much the same way progesterone drops when stressed, as it's the precursor to cortisol. Take care Wray
