54:1 ratio

by Pam
(Big Spring, Texas)

Hi all.. I used the article to help me calculate my estrogen to progesterone levels and took the quiz. I scored a 52 on the quiz. I did the math on my ratio. I have a 54:1 ratio. I have never had headaches nor body aches until recently. I am on HRT and have been complaining to my gyn. The pharmacist suggested I raise my progesterone. I just don't know how much since I am showing the 54:1 ratio.

Can someone help me on how much progesterone to use. I have tried to do this myself, but during the day the progesterone makes me so tired. Any suggestions or help available.

Thank you.

Hi Pam

If you have worked out your ratio correctly that is very low, it should be around 600:1. Unfortunately because you are on HRT, this makes things worse for you, it is adding to your estrogen dominance symptoms. You have to use a high amount of progesterone to counteract this. All drug based HRT's have a potential to cause harm. Usually between 100-200mg is needed, more if symptoms are severe, you will need to use much more. Please consider using a good organic progesterone cream such a Natpro instead. It is kinder on your body to wean off HRT very slowly should you decide to do this.

Do you know what your Vitamin D3 level is? A deficiency reduces the benefits of progesterone and is connected to every single functioning cell in our bodies making it vital. Co-factors are needed.

Please read these pages and the references as they will help you to understand about the benefits of a natural progesterone cream and what is needed.

Hi Pam

Gosh such a young age to have a hysterectomy which would have put you straight into Menopause. Thanks for providing your actual test results. Assuming that your estrogen result is actually estradiol (E2) then your progesterone:estradiol ratio is 9:1 and not 54:1. Your vitamin D3 is also low, optimal range is between 70-100ng/mL as per the pages already given to you.

Has the estrogen helped with your reconstruction? As you know, I do not believe that any woman need to be on extra estrogen and testosterone. http://press.endocrine.org/doi/abs/10.1210/jc.2009-0740

I can't comment on the progesterone cream that you are using, but my advice is given is based on Natpro progesterone cream which is a 3.33% cream. I can't say how much of your cream is needed. Many women experiment to see what suits them best.

Thank you Joy.

Yes, the estrogen was estradiol. Thank you for the help with the ratio. That is good to know. The estrogen (HRT) did not help with the vaginal tissue. I was complaining about how dry I was down there. When I upped the the progesterone, that began to help down there. I have increased my progesterone and it is helping.

I am not sure I can do as much progesterone during the day. I crash about 3pm everyday. I have increased my progesterone to 800mgs. daily to kill the estrogen dominance. That is a lot. I have increased my vit D to 8,000 daily, sublingual.

My thyroid is optimal and my adrenals are good. I got all those labs yesterday. Well, 9:1 is better than the 54:1 I got. I don't know where I made the math mistake, but thank you so much. I will see if I can afford the Natpro with as much as I have to use to combat this estrogen dominance.

Thank you so much for the help.
Pam
