Very little bleeding but less and less PMS symptoms

by applepie
(Germany)

Hello,

I'm taking progesterone for my PMS (and anxiety) and it is a tremendous help. I am 44 years now and my menstruation cycle is regular (I was able to prolong my cycle from 21 days to 25-27 days now with progesterone, but bleeding is very little and very short (2-3 days). Is that a problem? Do I have estrogen deficiency?

Thank you!

Very little bleeding but less and less PMS symptoms

hi Applepie I'm pleased it's helping you. You might like to see our page on Peri-menopause for further info. Short bleeding is not a problem. In fact it means the progesterone is suppressing the oestrogen effectively. It's oestrogen that builds the lining of the uterus, so a women with much oestrogen could have very heavy and long bleeding each month. Take care Wray

Thanks for getting back to me!

I feel it does me really a lot of good! I need about 600-800 mg daily in order to stay "normal", but I wonder if I will someday have too little estrogen? Dr. Katharina Dalton said you should feel free to overdose the progesterone and that it will regulate the estrogen for you, also Dr. Uzzi Reiss said if you have any symptoms you don't take enough. But is there a point when there is a progesterone dominance that is harmful?

Thanks so much,
applepie

Hi Applepie I've not heard of it becoming harmful if large amounts are used. Please read these pages here and here. Dr Dalton wrote some excellent books, not to mention many papers. You might like to read her page on pregnancy here. Take care Wray

Thanks Wray, so you too think should go on and listen to my body? I feel it really works (had two weird days yesterday and today, it must be my ovulation, a bit anxious, headaches...but I'm using progesterone and my mental exercises, mindfulness and meditation and I fell normal again now.) and don't want to give this hormone up.
