Progesterone and Breastfeeding

by Catherine
(UK)

I have been told that I have a low milk supply and am really keen to continue breastfeeding my 2 week old baby.

I've heard conflicting things about using natural progesterone cream and would like advice about whether this could increase my supply. Also, is it safe to use whilst breast feeding?

Many thanks

I used it daily

I used progesterone daily while breastfeeding my son for 4 1/2 months. My ND told me it was fine to do so and my little boy is doing just great! :)

Progesterone and Breastfeeding

Hi Catherine As Jessica says, progesterone is safe to use when breastfeeding, please see this web page we have here. You might consider taking fenugreek, it has galactogogue properties, so has Coleus amboinicus and milk thistle, see here, here, here and here. Fenugreek contains the sterol diosgenin, from which progesterone can be synthesised. Take care Wray
