i have very low breast milk production, and i read that progesterone can help if taken during pregnancy. can it help after pregnancy when im breastfeeding? i really want to keep breastfeeding but my supply is so low that im not even making enough for my son during a feeding. if i cant use progesterone then is there something else i might be able to take that wont be harmful to my son?

Hi Nicole There is evidence progesterone can help with breast feeding, although I don't have any papers per se. Please see this article by Dr Dalton here. These papers give info on various galactagogues as they are called, see here, here, here and here. If you should consider using progesterone, please see our page on How to use progesterone cream, plus the one on Oestrogen Dominance. This can occur when starting progesterone. Take care Wray
