measuring hormonal levels

Hi, Dr Mercola states that the best way to measure levels of hormones is by a 24 hour urine test. Has anyone ever done this? He also says that only a very small amount of progesterone cream should be used with breaks of 5 or 6 days in between. It's scary to try figuring out what is the best way to use it, if at all.

measuring hormonal levels

Hi there Progesterone levels do fluctuate, but most people don't have the time, or inclination, to take urine samples over a 24 hr period! Saliva tests are generally regarded as the best method, serum tests miss much of the progesterone circulating in tissue, see here. I don't agree with the very small amount though. We make between 5-40mg/day in our monthly cycle, and 20-40mg/day is the amount normally recommended we use. But if our own production cannot help with adverse symptoms, why should using the same amount that we make help? Besides, a study done using 40mg/day progesterone found it only produced sub-luteal levels of progesterone, which is pointless, see here. It's safety is beyond question, as it's been used for over 60 years in many disciplines with no adverse reports. You might like to look through the website and read comments from other users. Plus our page on How to use progesterone cream. But if you do decide to use it, please read our page on Oestrogen Dominance first. Take care Wray
