Spotting with cream

by Tracy
(Allentown, PA)

I am Peri menopausal, 41 years old and have been using the cream for 3 months. It has definitely helped with my heavy periods and many other symptoms.

However it has made my period consistent at 22 days-yuk. It has taken away heavy periods and cramping but now I spot continuously after I start the cream on day 12. I need to wear a pad 18 out of my 22 day cycle. Any advice on how to change my cream regime so that I do not spot so much?

Spotting with cream

Hi Tracy It appears you are using too little. You don't say how much you're using, but I recommend 100-200mg/day. Although for heavy bleeding I do recommend 400mg/day until it's under control. For more info on using progesterone during Peri-menopause please read through this page we have. If you still have regular cycles, the progesterone should only be used at ovulation. So if you have a 26 day cycle, starting it on day 12 is correct, but if you don't, please start using it when you do ovulate. This occurs in all women, irrespective of the cycle length 12-14 days before bleeding. It could be your normal cycle is longer than 26 days, in which case this is the probable reason for the spotting. If you are using the normal recommended amount of 20-40mg/day and wish to increase it, please read our page on Oestrogen Dominance first, as this can occur. Take care Wray.
