Would there be any benefit from progesterone?

by Peggy

I am 77 years old in very good health, exercise frequently and am active.

I take synthroid and some supplements no other meds. After an ultra-sound 2 yrs ago showed ovaries and uterus very shriveled and almost impossible to find.

My question is would there be any benefit from using progesterone at this stage of my life. I am 5' 7" 150 lbs. Do have some belly fat that I would like to get rid of. No known other problems.

Would there be any benefit from progesterone?

Hi Peggy I'm delighted you should ask, as I believe it's never to late to use progesterone. I think I need to do a page on ageing, as I get others asking the same question, albeit a bit younger than you. For now I do have a few papers you can read which might reassure you of it's benefits, see here, here, here, here and here. Plus these here, here, here and here. The belly fat is caused by excess testosterone, the menopausal ovary is an androgen secreting organ, see here, plus the adrenals make them too. If you take synthroid, I take it you have a sluggish thyroid. Please have a vitamin D test done, a lack of this nutrient impacts hugely on the thyroid. For more info see the Vitamin D Council and GrassrootsHealth websites. Take care Wray
