For the last four years I have had burning urine and urgency. Also sometimes the area around my vagina burns although I can sooth this with lubrication and cool water. The burning urine is not the result of UTI and I try to drink loads of water to keep my urine weak. this does not help my urgency. It has been suggested by a friend using natural progesterone cream around the urethra and vagina may help to rid me of these symptoms. Please can you say if this is true.

Hi Wendy It's quite possible they've missed any pathogens and told you you don't have a UTI. But one way of making the urine more alkaline is taking sodium bicarbonate. Mix 1tsp in some water and drink it, it tastes foul by the way! Alternatively a much nicer way is mixing together 3tsp vitamin C powder and 1 tsp bicarb. Take 1tsp 3 times a day in some water. It will fizz dramatically, and is delicious. You could try applying progesterone in your vagina and around the urethra, it's an anti-inflammatory so might help the burning. It could be the urgency is nothing more than acid urine, although its normally related to a UTI. Take care Wray
