by Soumya
(India)

Hi Wray, In december 2010, I had an ectopic and was treated by methroxenate only. I did not have surgery. After that I had spotting till feb 2011. After that my gyne prescribed Hyponidd and M2 tone tablets for 1 month.

Till now i did not have my period. Now I have been prescrided to have primolute-n for 3 days 2 tablets/day. Is this correct? I am tense as I am trying for a baby. Please advise.

Was ectopic and PCOS

Hi Soumya Interestingly, in all the studies I've read on ectopic pregnancies, progesterone is always low, see here, here, here and here. My reasoning might be entirely wrong, but if progesterone is low, and being low can be a cause of an ectopic pregnancy, surely the answer would be to give the woman progesterone to prevent it occurring again. Rather than the drugs which are dished out. I'm always baffled why Primolut N is given, it prevents ovulation, which of course means no progesterone is made, the very hormone that's needed, see here and here. It contains a very high dose of norethisterone (also known as norethindrone) a synthetic progestin. We do have a page on Pregnancy, please read through it as it gives info on how to use progesterone before conception and during pregnancy. Take care Wray
