Two miscarriages and scared of another

by Jen
(Dublin)

About 4 years ago I had 2 miscarriages within a year of each other.

I would love a baby but I'm afraid of trying in case it happens again. Is there anything I can do to stop it from happening a 3rd time?

Two miscarriages and scared of another

Hi Jen I know how you feel as I had five and yes there is something you can do. It's often a lack of progesterone behind recurrent miscarriages. They can be caused by stress too, because stress drops progesterone levels sharply. Progesterone itself is helpful for stressful situations as it activates the GABA receptor sites, GABA is one of our most calming neurotransmitters. Another calming amino is taurine, vital for a developing foetus too. Please see here and here. Please also have a look at our web page on Conception and Pregnancy. Take care Wray
