SAM-e and progesterone

Wray:

Do you know if taking SAM-e with progesterone is okay? Is this combination likely to be helpful for mood enhancement and relief of anxiety or can the SAM-e interfere with the progesterone? Thanks for the help as I have been unable to find any info on their interaction.

SAM-e and progesterone
by: Wray

Hi KM Well PubMed had 405 papers on SAMe, 235 on SAMe and depression, but none on progesterone and SAMe. Nothing on google either, but as both are secreted endogenously, I can't see how they would interact adversely. It's not something I've researched much as it's usually expensive, and there are cheaper Natural Antidepressants. These are a few papers, see here, here and here. One study kept the patients on their SRI while taking the SAMe. So if it's safe to do this with an SRI, then it's safe to do it with progesterone. There is evidence both help mood and anxiety, combined I imagine it would enhance this. Take care Wray

No Problem

On a daily basis, I've been taking 1,000--1,200mg of SAM-e along with 120mg of Natpro for about 8 months...no problems at all, no interactions. I did a ton of research about interactions of all the various supplements I take, and there is no issue with the SAM-e progesterone combination.

Good luck to you.
