Prometrium

My doctor prescribed prometrium 100mg. along with vivelle .75mg. I had a total hysterectomy in Jan. and my former doc. said I didn't need progesterone due to not having ovaries or a uterus.

So I found a great doc. who understands me and is willing to help me feel better. Has anyone been on prometrium or used it before? Does it help with fatigue, bloating, moodiness, memory loss, anxiety, or weight gain? I have all of this so I am hoping it will help me. Is 100mg a good dose to be on? I really hate having to be on so many medications just to find one that works. I am hoping these will help me to feel normal. Thanks.

I guess Prometrium is natural micronized progesterone?? If not, don't use it. Also, I would not use any estrogen that is not natural. You can refer to the articles regarding natural vs. chemical compounded on the internet to discover all kinds of side effects with the chemical versions.

I am taking 100 mg of compounded natural micronized progesterone cream daily for 9 months now. Too much estrogen caused polyps and increased lining of the uterus and I am post menopausal. I have never felt better. Just be cautious and research everything.

Hi Angel Prometrium is a natural progesterone, but as it's oral it's the least effective Delivery system. Most of it gets destroyed by the gut and liver. I recommend 100-200mg/day, dependent on symptoms, and in a form which is absorbed well. You might find 100mg is not sufficient, certainly in the early days. It always amazes me that doctors tell us we don't need progesterone if we don't have a uterus. It's role is not simply to protect the endometrium from oestrogen's proliferative effects, but for a host of other things too. Progesterone regulates gene expression, has a positive fundamental effect on cell differentiation and growth, with anti-oxidative and autoimmune anti-inflammatory mechanisms. It positively effects the nervous system by stimulating neurotrophic factors, quenching oxidative hyperactivity and regulating autoimmune responses. It's oestrogen you don't need, in any form, be it natural, synthetic or a phytoestrogen. You might like to read more about it's effects on our HRT page. Using progesterone with the oestrogen will mean it has little affect on the symptoms you have. These are all caused by excess oestrogen. After a total hyst with the removal of the ovaries, the main source of progesterone is also removed. Although the ovaries produce oestrogen too, the body is not left without a source, as fat cells continue to make it. Whereas they don't make progesterone. For more info on how to use it, please see our page on Menopause. But before you do please see our page on Oestrogen Dominance first, as this can occur. Take care Wray

Thank you Wray for all your support and information. I am finally getting my hormones checked today and I hope it will show why I feel so horrible. I am so tired all the time and I just contributed it to the prometrium but maybe I am not getting enough progesterone???? I also have CFS and Ebstien Bar Virus which also makes me very fatigued. I feel like such a mess. If I can get my hormones straightened out maybe I can feel better. At least that is what I am hoping for. Again THANK you so much for your help. It's hard finding someone who will take the time to help.
