Progesterone lowered my blood pressure

by Rick
(Canada)

Before I started using compounded progesterone cream I was on two blood presure pills. Almost immediately after I started using the cream my blood pressure dropped - in fact in went low enough that my cardiologist instructed me to discontinue using the pills.

My blood pressure is now around 120/80.

Progesterone lowered my blood pressure
by: Wray

Hi Rick. Thanks for sharing this with us. In case no one told you why this occurred, progesterone is a vasodilator, it also prevents platelets aggregating, so allowing blood to flow more freely.

Progesterone stimulates the production of nitric oxide, another potent vasodilator. Interestingly NO is given to men who have erectile dysfunction. Progesterone also prevents the aldosterone response by occupying the same receptor sites. Aldosterone is a hormone produced by the adrenals in response to a drop in blood pressure.

Please have a vitamin D ( 25-hydroxyvitamin D) blood test done. A low level of vitamin D causes the renin-angiotensin-aldoesterone system to kick into place. Renin, an enzyme produced in the kidneys, stimulates the production of angiotensin in the liver. Angiotensin is a potent vasoconstrictor, it also stimulates the production of aldosterone, which causes water to be retained, both actions cause blood pressure to increase. Take care, Wray
