progesterone cream

Hi Wray:

I started on the progesterone cream tonight. I took 20 mg. I am in Peri-menopause close to menopause you said. Should I take more? Also how do I take it considering my periods are out of whack. I started my period on May 6th and finished on Saturday June 23. I was going to take the progesterone cream until my next day one which is July 2nd.

Thank-you so much for your help, I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Leona

Hi Leona I normally recommend 100-200mg/day, more if symptoms are bad. I can't remember what your symptoms were. I've now found one of your previous queries and my answer to it which is…. "If you want to stop the heavy bleeding, you will need 400mg/day as I mentioned in my previous answer. Which means you'll need to use 25ml or 5tsp cream per day. In other words you will be using 1 container every 2.4 days. 20 to 40mg per day does not raise levels of progesterone to that found in the luteal phase, see our page on Progesterone Misconceptions. It will do nothing for the heavy bleeding. It really is advisable to take the NAC too." So unless the heavy bleeding has miraculously stopped in the meantime, please follow what I've suggested above. I can't remember what else I told you, but the above should help the heavy bleeding. If your cycles are now erratic it's best to use the progesterone daily, it's impossible to follow them. Take care Wray
