Progesterone cream and Anxiety? HELP!!

by Tanya
(Los Angeles, CA )

Hi Wray,

I have some concerns. I'm 32 years old, TTC for the past 3 years. I have had 3 miscarriages in the past 3 years. I do have 1 a healthy 6 year old. I was using bio-identical progesterone cream for some time. It was the standard 2% cream, 2 times per day. 1/4 teaspoon. Which seemed to be working well. I got pregnant this past March, and immediately told my Dr. I think I needed progesterone to support the pregnancy. He was reluctant to test me for progesterone, even after 2 previous MC. Turns out my levels were very low, and I ended up miscarrying. I had a D&C and here I'am now. Over the past couple of months I have been trying to start the cream again and it's as if my body is rejecting it. I get bad headaches/migraines I have had very bad anxiety/panic attacks, emotional, tired, shaky, and the list goes on. Is it because I have become so estrogen dominant that the progesterone cream is waking up all of my estrogen receptors? I currently started a stronger cream 2.4% 1/4 teaspoon 2 times a day. I have had PCOS for several years, have always been estrogen dominant, and just had my galbladder removed last week. I just want to get pregnant, and I'm getting so discouraged. Please advise. Should I use more, use less? when will my symptoms go away??? thank you!

MIGRAINES ETC
by: Deborah

Hi Tanya

I bet Wray and Joy will tell you that you need a lot more progesterone - because of your symptoms and because you are trying to get pregnant.

But in the meantime, I think you should also look into Magnesium chloride for the migraines, etc.

Dr. Carolyn Dean says that magnesium 'is important in the treatment of fertility' and 'Serotonin balance is Mg-dependent. Deficiency of serotonin can result in migraine headaches and depression', and 'Anxiety and Panic attacks- Magnesium (Mg) normally keeps adrenal stress hormones under control.'

Google Dr. Carolyn Dean or Dr. Sircus in regards to magnesium and also transdermal (on the skin) magnesium.

Progesterone cream and Anxiety? HELP!
by: Joy

Hi Tanya

If only doctors would study the research papers on progesterone, so many of these stories could be avoided. Please read the Anxiety, PCOS, Miscarriage and Pregnancy pages. The symptoms that you are describing are all Oestrogen Dominance symptoms, using a cream that does not have the correct progesterone concentration only makes things worse. How to use progesterone cream is also an important page to read.

Vitamin D is also extremely important, do you know what your level is? A deficiency reduces the benefits of progesterone and is vital for pregnancy, the mother and the unborn child.

Hope this helps you.

Thank you for the advice. That is what I was thinking, do you think it's possible for me to have low estrogen? I have every one of the low estrogen symptoms, and I don't ovulate. My last "period" which just ended 4 days ago was pure hell. When I started my period, I had terrible anxiety, fears, depression, etc.. it was pure hell. I had never had that before. I'm just so confused. I have an appt. Friday with my Dr. but I'm just trying to figure all this out. Progesterone had always helped me, but now it's making everything worse. The minute I take it I get a migraine on the right side of my head. I'm just so confused.

Wray what are your opinions on maca powder, coconut oil, killing yeast (candida or thrush) for balancing hormones, specicially estrogen and progesterone?

Also, do you have any opinions on the blood type diet?

I have a lot of stress in my life and while I try to control the stress I think it is affecting my hormone levels. I recently saw a doctor regarding this and he drew up tests over many weeks time but I was unable to follow up with him due to insurance issues. I have the results that maybe you could see if I need progesterone or even estrogen.

week 1. progesterone .6 and estradiol 39.67

week 2. progesterone .5 and estradiol 34.07

week 3. progesterone .6 and estradiol 35.00

week 4. progesterone 1.6 and estradiol 107.1

week 5. progesterone 8.5 and estradiol 119.2

week 6. progesterone 3.6 and estradiol 153.3

Thanks you

Stress can certainly have an affect on hormones and upsets the reproductive cycle. In fact stress can stop ovulation, which means no progesterone is made. Please read the following pages, Hormone Testing Pregnancy Oestrogen Dominance and How to use Progesterone Cream

Extra progesterone and Vitamin D needs to be used when stressed, do you know what your Vitamin D level is, as a deficiency reduces the benefits of progesterone.
