Progesterone and acid reflux taken at bedtime

by Renae
(Clemmons)

I was prescribed 100mg of progesterone and 0.25 vivelle patch that I actually cut in half. I have been taking the progesterone and now it is giving me acid reflux and waking me up at night. Not a pleasant experience. Is there not something else that I can take or should I take the progesterone a little earlier in the evening?

Hi Renae Oral progesterone is the least effective Delivery system. "The liver and gut region removed a mean of 96 per cent of the progesterone entering these tissues" see here. So you are not getting much. Far better if you used a cream, it's such a benefit to the skin too. We have more info on our page How to use progesterone cream. The oestrogen you're getting via the patch counters any benefits you might get from the progesterone. You might lie to see our page on HRT. Plus progesterone should be used a minimum of twice a day too, as levels drop after about 13 hours. I'm not sure how old you are but we have two other pages you could look through, Peri-menopause and Menopause. And this one too on Oestrogen Dominance. Take care Wray
