No pattern to my periods, when do I start the progest cream?

Hi Wray
I received the cream yesterday and have been trying to figure out when to start it. I am 28 years old. I have no idea when I would be ovulating as my periods can range from 2 weeks to 3 months apart. When its between 2 and 4 weeks it seems to be very light and I wonder if I did ovulate. other times its heavy and painful. I would like to start the cream as soon as possible. Thanks.

No pattern to my periods, when do I start the progest cream?
by: Wray

Hi there Have you been checked for PCOS? It's most unusual to experience such a range in your cycle lengths, and this could explain it. Normal cycles vary from 21 to 35 days, making 28 the average. As you have no idea when your cycle is, I suggest you start using the progesterone immediately. It could be a long wait if you have to wait for your next period and then count the days till possible ovulation. As your cycle varies so much, it's best to follow the average of 28 days, ie you would use the progesterone for 14 days, then stop it for 14 days. Initially I would ask you to use it daily for 2-3 months before attempting to start a cycle going. During your period too. This will ensure that progesterone becomes the dominant hormone. We have more info on how to regulate a cycle on our page How to use progesterone cream. I normally recommend 100-200mg/day, dependant on symptoms. Progesterone can stimulate oestrogen when first using it, particularly if too low an amount is used. Please read our page on Oestrogen Dominance before starting it, it explains why this occurs and what to do if it does. Progesterone is an excellent anti-inflammatory, so if you experience any pain, please rub the cream over the area affected. Take care Wray

Get my period 4-5 days after I start the cream each time!!!
by: Anonymous

Hi Wary,
I have been on the cream for few months now. at first as you said I used it continously. Now when trying to use it only from after ovulation for 14 days I end up with a full period 4-5 days after starting the cream which lasts 5-6 days. Hence I pretty much have my period for 50% of the month. I have ignored it and kept to the 28day cycle of using the cream for 14days on 14days off hoping it would end up regulating it. PLEASE HELP. What would you advise??? (I did go to the doctor and she has dignosed me with pcos.) Thanks

Hi there PCOS will make a difference, and you'll probably have to use the progesterone daily for about 6 months, before attempting to follow your cycle. Plus it's essential to take large doses of the antioxidants listed on the link I gave you. Progesterone itself will not reverse the condition, but it is needed because if ovulation doesn't take place, none is being secreted. Please read that page, as it gives info on how to reverse the PCOS. Please have a vitamin D test done, it's essential for ovulation too. There's info on the page about where you can have the tests done. Take care Wray
