menopause and neuropathy

by Dee
(califronia)

Hello, I am 58 have been postmenopausal for a few years.

Had a partial hysterectomy 16 years ago, kept my ovaries.

Hot flashes started 4 years ago, I also started getting odd sensations starting in my right foot. Slowly over a few weeks the odd sensations spread all over including my face, scalp, arms, legs, whole body. They happen off and on daily.

Now after 4 years my nerve test shows neuropathy. I have read that menopause can cause neuropathy and that your nerves need progestrone to be healthy.

Can progestrone cream reverse the neuropathy?

I am not diabetic, no other health problems.

Menopause and Neuropathy
by: Joy

Hi Dee

It would appear that, and as many have experienced, neuropathy can occur at any time during Menopause or Peri-menopause.
Progesterone levels are low and estrogen is high during this time. I recommend 100-200mg per day of a good quality progesterone cream such as Natpro, more may be needed if symptoms are severe.

Progesterone is an excellent anti-inflammatory and will certainly help you but so too will Vitamin D3, do you know what your level is as a deficiency reduces the benefits of progesterone?

Thank you so much for writing back.

I will start those suggestions right away.

I did try the climara patch for about 6 weeks 2 years ago, it did stop the hot flashes but did not help with the neuropathy so I stopped.

My Estradiol blood level, after not being on climara for several months was <10pg/ml, I think that is low, that was Dec of 2015.

The doctor I saw dose not want to order any more lab work, all my annual physical lab work was normal.

Thank you again

Dee

Hi Dee

It is so sad when doctors refuse to run more tests. Only you know how you feel, how can they come with that pathetic story?

If you really want tests done then why not order them online. ZRT Labs in the USA or Birmingham Hospital in the UK will do them for you.

Please do not take an answer by any doctor that tests are normal, please compare them to the Hormone Testing page.
