How I thought I discovered the right progesterone level

by Wendy Lee
(Grapeview, wa)

I'm 53 and have been on estradiol and progesterone cream for about 5 years.

I thought I was estrogen dominate and discontinued the 0.5 mg I was taking daily and upped my progesterone cream to everyday 1/4tsp (1.25ml). I just received the saliva results and was surprised that my estrogen level was 0.8 and my progesterone level was 2449. They recommended that I stop the progesterone cream. I feel that I should start taking the estradiol again and just cut back on the progesterone cream.

I feel great so I was surprised to see the high level come back on the test. I'm confused to say the least.

How I thought I discovered the right progesterone level

Hi Wendy Lee. This is a normal reaction by doctors when such a high level of progesterone is seen, but it's nothing to worry about. Levels can go ten times higher and more if saliva is tested, and yet serum levels only rise a little. Please read more about it here. and here.

I'm pleased you feel great on the progesterone only, you should, and relieved you've come off the estradiol cream. Oestrogen stimulates mitosis, or cell division, and to my mind not worth the risks, you can read more here. and here. Take care, Wray
