How do I know which day to start cream??

by Janice
(Ga)

I have had a hysto but still have both ovaries. My last saliva test showed prog. 120(pg/ml) doc prescribed cream but it made me feel worse.

After reading info here I may know why. Pg/E2 saliva ratio was 86. Estradiol was 1.4. I have been able to figure that my pmdd symptoms get bad around the 20th of the month and last for close to 2 wks but getting longer. Since I have no period I don't know when the best time is to start the cream during the month. I am barely hanging on here and really need some help. Doc prescribed me 1 gram of 25mg of cream once a day. I stopped using this a while back but I am feeling worse and thinking I need to try again.

How do I know which day to start cream??

Hi Janice As you have had a hyst you can start the progesterone at any time, and use it daily if you wish. There's no need to take a break, as is so often advised. It's entirely up to you. Many women have found, including myself, that when taking one symptoms can come back. We do have more info on our Menopause page. Please ensure you use sufficient, 25mg/day will make you feel worse. I recommend 100-200mg/day dependant on symptoms. Progesterone initially stimulates oestrogen, causing Oestrogen Dominance. It's essential to make progesterone the dominant hormone. So if symptoms become worse, increase the amount of progesterone. We've found from Saliva Tests we run, that the ratio should be 600:1 and over to feel well. Progesterone should be used a minimum of twice a day, more if need be. Levels drop after about 13hrs. Take care Wray

Hi Janice Yes I've found it essential to use more progesterone if oestrogen dominance kicks in. As the cream you have only contains 25mg/g, you would need to use 4-8 times that amount each day. Try the 4 times to begin with, this will give you 100mg/day progesterone. If you still have bad symptoms increase by 25mg each time until you begin to feel better. It is a slow process finding out how much you need, not forgetting stress drops progesterone levels. So if you have a stressful time, please use more. There's no question that the women who've trusted me and used a high amount have felt better far quicker than those using the usual recommendations of 20-40mg/day. This is shown very well in this comment here. Fiona was given 400mg/day progesterone suppositories by her doctor, she'd never used it before and in her own words "I had absolutely no side effects. They are supposed to cause constipation and this has always been a problem for me. Weirdly, when I take the progesterone I feel great, have more energy and my bowels are regular!". 400mg/ day is a very good amount, but for most people too costly to try. Although it does mean oestrogen dominance doesn't get a chance to kick in, and then the amount can be reduced slowly. And bless you for the kind words, they make my heart glad! Take care Wray
